Compass is a turn-key project management and development services company. We provide hospitality and commercial real estate clients with the planning and execution expertise necessary to successfully lead projects from concept through completion. A boutique company with a vast network of resources, Compass offers a wide range of services to help our clients acquire, develop or transform their properties to maximize asset value. At Compass, we believe a proactive, disciplined approach to the development process is crucial to ensuring successful planning and execution of projects. President

Jim Zaun

Jim Zaun founded Compass Development Services, LLC in 2009. Since its inception, Compass has successfully worked with a diverse group of clientele, leading their development, design, and construction efforts for acquisitions, re-development, new construction and significant renovation projects. Prior to forming Compass, Jim led Starwood Hotels and Resorts’ Project Management Team, developing and executing renovation projects at nearly all of Starwood’s owned assets. Jim has 35 years’ experience in hospitality development, construction, and operations. He understands the critical link between these disciplines, and that ensuring their alignment will ultimately lead to successful projects.

Vice President

Mark Bohlman

Mark joined Compass to lead the design and development of all high profile projects for the firm. His primary area of expertise is in the programming, design, and construction of complex hotel renovation projects with aggressive schedules and operational challenges. Prior to joining Compass, Mark was Senior Vice President at TM Davis and Associates, a hotel and casino project management firm based in San Francisco. In his ten years at TM Davis, Mark successfully led all major projects from concept through construction close-out and operations turnover. Mark also has significant experience in Technical Services, for a multitude of brands. He previously worked with Jim Zaun at Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and helped build the Technical Services team and refine A&E; standards for the company.

Kelsey-Leigh Devane

Kelsey-Leigh Devane is a dynamic and versatile project management professional with a proven track record of delivering excellence across industries including hospitality, logistics, luxury service, and design.  At Compass, she supports complex development initiatives with a sharp eye for detail, ensuring timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations are met with precision and professionalism.​

Over the past several years, Kelsey-Leigh has held leadership roles spanning logistics management, event production, and client relations.  She brings a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinate cross-functional teams, and maintain clear, organized workflows throughout all phases of execution.​

With a focus on delivering exceptional outcomes and building strong client relationships, Kelsey-Leigh contributes to Compass’s mission of providing thoughtful, streamlined project support across every engagement. She brings both vision and meticulous attention to detail to every initiative, always prioritizing elevated service delivery.​

Marty Stakem

Marty Stakem is a 26-year veteran of hospitality renovation with a proven record of delivering large-scale, high-impact projects. He began his career in 1999 with Meristar Hospitality, later serving as Senior Vice President at Interstate Hotels & Resorts, where he oversaw nearly $100 million in full-service and resort renovations. In 2015, he joined BRE Hotels & Resorts as Director of Project Management, contributing to more than $500 million in select-service property renovations. Today, Marty brings his deep industry expertise and results-driven leadership to Compass, supporting hotel renovation projects nationwide.

Lori Ciaffa

Lori Ciaffa brings more than 20 years of experience managing and consulting on thoughtful, sophisticated interiors across both residential and hospitality environments. Her extensive background spans a diverse range of projects, from refined residential spaces to high-end hotels and guest-facing environments. 

With a strong eye for detail, materiality, and functionality, Lori seamlessly oversees the design aspect of projects with a modern, elevated aesthetic. Her collaborative approach and deep understanding of the design process allow her to assist in transforming concepts into cohesive, beautifully executed spaces that are both distinctive and visually encapsulating.
