Jim Zaun founded Compass Development Services, LLC in 2009. Since its’ inception, Compass has successfully worked with a diverse group of clientele leading their development, design, and construction efforts for acquisitions, re-development, new construction and significant renovations projects.
Prior to forming Compass, Mr. Zaun was the Vice President of Architecture and Construction for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc., one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world. At Starwood, he spent nearly a decade overseeing the Project Management team that was responsible for conceiving, planning and executing all capital projects for the North America Divisions owned asset portfolio. Since 2001, Starwood has invested over $2 billion in its owned real estate.
Prior to joining Starwood, Mr. Zaun began his career with the ITT Sheraton Corporation. At Sheraton, he worked in operations and as a project manager, leading several operating teams and managing numerous redevelopment and renovation projects throughout North America.
Mr. Zaun has over 22 years experience in hospitality development, construction, and operations, He understands the critical link between these disciplines, and that ensuring their alignment will ultimately lead to successful projects.
Mr. Zaun is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Development and Operations. He also completed study in Building Systems Design and Engineering, holds several technical licenses, is a member of the US Green Building Council, and is a licensed USGC Captain.
